How to Decorate a Car for 4th of July

How to decorate a car for a parade

For the past few months, there has been a lot of craze for drive-by celebrations of all kinds. Not only have the drive-by brought joy to the people being celebrated, but they are also fun to watch.

They may be different from the usual parties that we're used to, but people have become creative and created memorable moments.

When coming up with decorations, don't forget to consider what the individual you're celebrating loves. For instance, their preferred color. It is also essential to consider safety when decorating your car. You don't want to block your way or that of the cars behind you in the parade.

In this post, we will highlight some of the best car decoration ideas for a parade. These are as follows:

Balloons

How to decorate a car for a parade

Balloons are common in all celebrations. Whether it's a graduation, birthday, bridal party, promotion, name it… You will always find balloons. That's why having balloons as part of your car parade will make the celebration lively.

Balloons come in several shapes, sizes, and colors; hence, giving you several options to go with depending on the celebration.

There are several ways that you can decorate your car using balloons. You can tie some inflated balloons to the antenna or side mirrors of the vehicle.

Alternatively, you can tape them on the car's roof, trunk, or even hood. No matter where you tie or tape the balloons, ensure they don't obstruct your view as you drive.

Mix and match different types of balloons. Tape animal balloons on top of the car's roof and tie inflated balloons to the antenna. At the same time, oversized balloons are perfect for taping on the car's trunk. These will make your car look festive and unforgettable.

Celebratory Signs

After deciding the balloons that you will use for decor, the next step is to choose celebratory signs. These help in announcing the event or calling out the name of the person being celebrated.

Draw your idea in chalk and color it using markers and paints. Afterward, brush a coating of glue on some of the drawings and letters. Finally, splash some glitter on the wet glue for a sparkling sign(s). Attach the celebratory sign on the car where the individual being celebrated can see it.

If possible, attach the sign on both sides of the car so that people on the parade can see them as well.

The best celebratory signs should have eye-catching colors to create attention. You can also use glitters and sturdy poster boards.

Inflatables

How to decorate a car for a parade

Even though balloons are amazing, you should go the extra mile and come up with a unique décor. There is a high chance that many people in the parade will have balloons attached to their cars.

So, instead of just attaching balloons, you can also attach large inflatables.

The inflatable can be for animals or uniquely shaped large balloons. Whatever inflatable you choose, they should match with the event's theme. If the person being celebrated loves animals, you can acquire a large inflatable with the shape of a bear or even a bird.

Large inflatables should be tied around the roof. Use wire twist-ties to tie them on your car's roof.

Streamers And Stickers

Streamers and Stickers can also be used for décor in a car parade. Streamers can be bought from a party supply store. With a variety of designs and colors to choose from, streamers can be mixed and matched.

As a result, it is easy to create a car décor that matches the theme of the celebration.

How to decorate a car for a parade

Moreover, streamers can be customized on the car to create an appealing sight. For instance, you can tape one end to the high end of the vehicle and another on the lower end. You can also create a pattern to come up with a unique design.

Aside from streamers, you can also use car stickers. Unlike streamers that have to be twisted and rolled to create a beautiful design, stickers are easy to decorate. These are ready-made, and you only have to stick them on the car's window, bumper, or body.

To make the décor more appealing, you can create an animated sticker of the person you're celebrating, then twist the streamer around the sticker to form an eye-catching décor.

Chalk It Up

A quick and easy way to decorate your car for a parade is by chalking it up. Use window chalk or window markers to write special messages. Besides, you can also draw beautiful designs on the window glass with a message. The design should match the theme of the celebration.

Unlike permanent car markers, window chalk is temporary, making it perfect for car parades.

Apply the window chalk or window marker on the window glass as it can damage your car's paint. Furthermore, only apply the chalk on the side and rear windows, not the driver's window. It can create an obstruction and lead to an accident.

Colored Duct Tape

Colored duct tape is another unique way of decorating your car. Unlike other decorations, duct tape will also be used to attach signs and lights. Meaning, you will kill two birds using one stone. Besides, duct tape won't hurt your car's paint.

What's more, you can write short and fun messages on it. Also, you can sketch some drawings on the colored duct take using markers.

Any ideas on how to decorate a red Mustang convertible for a Christmas parade? The theme is the 12 Days of Christmas.

Add your voice! Click below to answer. ThriftyFun is powered by your wisdom!

I'm wondering if you need to use all the 12 days of Christmas or you can only use 1.

Since you have a convertible it would be fun to pick one of the 12 days and use your car for this day. For example you could pick the 3rd day and talk to people in the music department at schools and see if you could borrow 3 French horns.

As for the other days of Christmas this one would be sort of hard unless you decided to go to a craft store and get some foam ducks or geese. You could then get some large Christmas ribbon and use this on the front of the car to iie a giant bow in the middle and make a V up the hood to the windshield.

I wouldn't decals on your paint on the car or even use a frost color spray paint like snow on the car. This is very hard on your paint job. Just use ribbon, foam birds, rings, and things like this. I like the 3 French horns in the back seat and maybe you can get a member of the band to dress up like a elf and sit on the top of the back seat playing the horns.

I would have decals of all the items for the 12 days of Christmas on the body of the car.(1 partridge in a pear tree, 5 golden rings, etc)

Decorating Mustang for 12 days of Christmas.

  • Put a partridge in a cage on the back of the car sitting on the trunk.
  • Find two turtle doves sit somewhere on the outside of the car.

Learn how to decorate a parade float with inexpensive float decor.

I've signed myself up this school year to become a troop leader for two of my girls that are in a scout program. It will definitely take a lot of planning to do all of our service projects and fun crafts, but if it was anything like last year, it will be well worth it! I love seeing little leaders develop. While they are making memories and messes, I'm going to embrace the fun and joy that our troop has throughout the year.

These next few weekends are all about school pride and homecoming! In every city and small town, communities are celebrating their school spirit as football season is upon us! This year, we did our first float as part of our hometown high school's homecoming parade. I wanted to gather up some of the lessons learned that I hope you can learn from as you endeavor in your own parade float!

How to Decorate with Inexpensive Parade Float Ideas

#1. Get the Kids Involved

Kids love decorating floats – so reach out to your group and plan out a date or two for decorating. You'll need supplies like paint, scissors, glue, markers and crayons. Let me just warn you, it can get quite messy! Having Huggies® Cleansing® Wipes on hand can make cleaning up spilled paint or glue a breeze while you are decorating!

#2. Add Fringe to Your Parade Float

Fringe in your group's color provide a gorgeous and more professional look. It is an essential part of decorating your group's float! Here's my favorite type to use.

#3. Balloon Arches on your Parade Float

Balloon arches can be made out of inexpensive flexible PVC tubing.

My tip: Buy two PVC pipes, connect them and measure where you need to cut. Make sure that you cut it so that the connection point is not the center.

You'll need to blow up four balloons and tie them together in a cluster. Next, just twist and criss cross the balloons on the arch!

If you don't want to go to the hardware store or make your own, check out a balloon arch kit.

#4. Make Signs for your Parade Float

This is the easiest item for your group to decorate when everyone shows up to your location to decorate. Create some signs for people that are walking around your float and ON your float! Another older troop helped create this amazing sign! You can use a craft cutting machine to get this done.

#5. Yard Signs for Group Members

This was something I saw on another float that are keeping in mind for next year. Instead of printing flimsy posters, print out yard signs for photos of your troop and/or team to put on the float. That way, the signs are durable and reusable! Get some yard signs here.

#6. Pomping and Chicken Wire

You might want to wait on this if you have little ones, but it does make for awesome decor! I did a lot of pomping in college for floats. A LOT. You can either use chicken wire to STUFF the tissue in OR you can wrap the pomp around a marker and stick it in modge/podge onto the plyboard.

Pomping is literally just flour and water, but you can also buy premade pomp paste.

#7. Parade Float Seating with Straw Bales

We purchased six straw bales for around $40. I knew my little Kindergartners and first graders would complain about the scratchiness of them, so we threw moving blankets on top of the straw bales! You could easily

#8. Prepare Inexpensive Wheel Covers for your Parade Float

Make sure you have a lot of candy and necklaces on hand to throw out! Make sure you let the kids know not to throw them all at the very beginning of the parade route. Bulk parade necklaces here.

#10. Wear Your Uniforms

This may be stating the obvious, but make sure all the kids wear their uniforms on the float! It will make for a more cohesive look.

#11. Get a Sponsor for your Parade Float

If you want to go all out and decorate your parade float without a big budget, try to ask for a business to sponsor you. If you agree to having their sign up as part of your parade, most businesses will be open to providing a budget in order for your group to decorate in order to advertise their business for them.

#12. Send Out Reminders for Parade Day

Here are a few reminders you may want to send to your parade group in preparation for getting on the float during parade day.

1. Ensure that everyone has gone to the bathroom prior to getting on the float.
2. Everyone should have their own candy and/or necklaces to throw. Rules are that only underhanded tosses are allowed.
3. Bring your own drink that will last throughout the parade.
4. To minimize the risk of kids getting sick, limit the consumption of candy on the actual float.
5. Have some baby and antibacterial wipes in the case of a cleaning emergency.
6. Have a First Aid Kit ready.

Decorate your car windows safely with Acrylic Paint.
How to decorate a car for a parade
Lately we have seen more and more reasons to want to decorate car windows. Whether it is a drive by Happy Birthday parade or a drive by congrats to the Grad or any car parade of some sort, there are so many reasons to want to write a positive message on your car windows to cheer on your family and friends.

Paint Safe for Car Windows:

Did you know you can use acrylic paint to write on car windows…I sure didn't. Acrylic paint as in regular old craft paint. Just make sure that it is a water based paint. When we did this for the first time, I really didn't want to run out to the store to buy something just for this purpose, especially if I already had something here at my house that would work. If you have water based craft paint you are good to go!
We also made a big banner for our front porch. I love acrylic paint for banners too, it's so much better than markers for writing BIG.

What you need to write with paint on a car window:

  • water based acrylic craft paint
  • paint brushes in assorted sizes
  • razor blade for removing the paint

How to paint on car windows:

We have found that it's best to use light and bright colors when writing messages on car windows like the color white. Start with the color white as a base and then you can add color on top of the white to make the colors more visible. Darker colors are not as visible on dark windows. Adding white as a base coat helps the darker colors to be more visible as well.

  • wish someone a Happy Birthday
  • congratulate someone on a graduation
  • congratulate someone on a race like a marathon or a half marathon

How to remove paint from Car Windows:

When it came time to take the paint off of our car windows, I just used a razor blade. If you move the razor blade slowly under the paint, you can generally keep the paint in big pieces making less clean up for yourself. If the paint has been left on the window for a long time, you can spray a simple solution on the paint on the windows to soften the paint a little so you can use the razor blade to gently scrape the paint off.
Here's the solution:

  • 1 part window washing fluid
  • 1 part water
  • a few drops of Dawn Dish Soap

You don't need a full spray bottle of this solution. You can mix a small bowl of this solution and wet an old rag with it and wipe the mixture over the paint on the windows. The goal is just to make the paint damp and wet so that it will come off in big chunks rather than tiny shards of paint …making a mess.
