To find If monitor is having problem, try this:
1. Reseat cable between monitor and graphics card.
2. Reseat graphics card (if any)
3. Try a different VGA/HDMI cable.
4. Try different ports on the graphics card and monitor.
5. Try your monitor on a different system.
6. Try a different monitor if you have same problem.

Do let me know if you require any further help on this. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.

I will try those emergency steps the next time it happens.  We have checked the cables, and wires, etc.  Since it is only the monitor's display that is "gone" I do not think it is the computer.  We have attached the computer to an older monitor that was working just fine before it was replaced.  So far, this issue has not happened, but if it does, then we will know it has something to do with the computer itself.  Thank you!

The HP Pavilion is model #590-p0076 and the monitor is HP 22YH.

As I stated in another response, I believe it is the monitor, not the computer, at fault.

But any information is immensely appreciated!

I do not have another system to try this monitor on, but I have attached an older HP monitor, model #HP 52031, to this computer.  This monitor was working fine, except it doesn't turn off without being unplugged.  So far, the blank screen has not occurred while the computer it attached to this older monitor.

Then,

Have a service for the new HP monitor, or ask for a replacement if possible.

Thanks.

This is exactly what needs to happen!  I have already filed a claim with the warranty company.

I started using my old monitor on March 5, and this is now March 20th, and there have been NO repeated incidents like this.  It is definitely the new monitor at fault (purchased with the computer in November 2018).  Now, to convince them I need to have the monitor replaced, to make this fair.  I am actually doing fine with my old monitor, but it won't turn off without being unplugged.  That was the only problem with it.  I should actually just ask for my money back, as it has never worked properly.  I wanted to allow plenty of time, to see if the new monitor had the same problem, and it hasn't, after 15 days.  I will let you know what happens from now on, dealing with that warranty.

Thank you very much for the responses!  You are very much appreciated!

~Mary
