How to Change Wash Cycle on Bosch Dishwasher
The chances are that your old dishwasher broke down, and you got a replacement. Or, you moved into a new apartment whose kitchen was recently furnished with a Bosch dishwasher, and you run into trouble a few weeks after using the machine. If the power button light is red, but the dishwasher is still not working, and you try switching the machine on and off and no changes, the machine is stuck in a washing cycle.
Dishwashers get stuck in cycles for a bunch of reasons. A lot of people make the costly mistake of opening the dishwasher door mid-cycle, probably to add an extra dish before the machine dispenses liquid soap. Sometimes, children can be experimental and open the latch while the machine is running.
But you had done that before, and the machine worked? Yeah, sure. Many modern dishwasher brands work smoothly when the door is opened. They pause the current wash cycles and automatically pick up from where they left off when you firmly close the door. But not Bosch dishwasher models. These remain paused even after you latch the door closed.
Dishwasher owners usually make the costly mistake of misdiagnosing the problem. They think that the pump is probably broken and therefore needs a replacement. Before you rush to look for a new pump, ensure that it's not a paused or interrupted wash cycle. Follow the following steps to reset a stuck Bosch dishwasher cycle and save lots of bucks on service calls.
Use the Control Panel
The first option is as easy as pressing a button. Most dishwasher owners tend to overlook the Reset Feature in every dishwasher brand they acquire. The Reset button on the newer Bosch models is paired with the Start button, which can be confusing at times. All you need to reset the stuck wash cycle is to press the Reset button for three to five seconds.
Look for the start button on the control panel and press it for at least three seconds before releasing with the door tightly closed. If the dishwasher responds after a few seconds with a pump or motor movement, it means it was stuck on a paused wash cycle. You are fortunate if the Control Panel is facing you. Some dishwashers have the Incognito Design, which means that the control panel hides under the countertop once you firmly close the door. You will have to be much more careful when opening the door with the Incognito Design because the pressurized water may spill out of the door, potentially scalding your skin.
Cautiously open the door to access the control panel. Press the start button firmly and then release it before swiftly closing the door. After five seconds, you should hear some pump movement if the dishwasher was just stuck in a paused cycle. Consequently, it will complete the current cycle and use control panel lights or noise to indicate that it's done. Reset the dishwasher for a new cycle.
The Reset Feature in older Bosch dishwasher versions is not so apparent. Look for a "drain" or "cancel" button. Additionally, they require a special key combination or what is known as the Key Dance to reset a paused wash state typically indicated by special symbols. For example, you may start with Regular Wash, then simultaneously press the Hold and Rinse button for three to five seconds with the latch tightly closed. Resetting a dishwasher activates the drain pump, and all water is pumped out of the machine. Once clear of all water, it will give you a Done or Complete cycle and automatically switch to standby mode.
Manual Reset
Did you know that toggling the on and off button to reset the Electronic Controller doesn't work for a large percentage of Bosch dishwasher brands? Disconnecting the power cable from the power source or what is known as a Hard Reset should be your next stop. Unplug the dishwasher for two or three minutes before plugging it back in. However, ensure that the power cable is not wet or broken and that there is no puddle water behind the machine to avoid electrocution.
If that doesn't reset the Bosch dishwasher, you will have to disconnect the power from the mains. Look for the Breaker Box, which is somewhere within the house. Hopefully, the circuit breakers are correctly labeled to prevent you from switching off the wrong line. Most dishwasher power lines feature a 20 or 15 Amp circuit breaker with a DW label. Once you unplug from the power source, inspect your machine for leaking valves and broken pipes. Against a wall, tilt the machine to its side, and the water will flow due to gravity. Dry your hands, plug the power cable back to the socket and press the power button to turn on the machine. You have successfully reset the Bosch dishwasher, and it's ready for another fresh, clean cycle.
The Child Lock
New Bosch dishwasher owners usually mess with the settings, and selecting the wrong settings may cause the machine to pause the wash cycle for some time. For example, entering the wrong combination of keys or unknowingly activating the child lock may keep you from starting a new cycle.
Double-check the settings to ensure that you didn't enter the wrong key combinations or activate the child lock. That's why the machine is stuck.
Be sure that you previously had not made any selections before selecting a new cycle. For instance, the delay-start will keep the machine paused in the previous cycle, thus preventing it from starting a new cycle. They should tell you whether you have selected the wrong cycle.
If you successfully reset the stuck Bosch dishwasher cycle, give yourself a pat on the back for a job well done. But dishwashers have proven stubborn even after resetting through the control board and a manual reset. This indicates that something in the system is not working as expected.
In some instances, the door switch or door latch is broken, tricking the sensors into relaying the information to the Control Centre that the door is open. Additionally, you may have reset the dishwasher after a stuck cycle, only for it to stop working after it has begun. How to Fully Reset A Bosch Dishwasher
Start by firmly shutting the door and pressing the reset button simultaneously. After ten seconds, the paused cycle should resume if the door latching was merely loosened by force from playing with pets or excessive vibration.
Refusing to resume the function after that reset process indicates that the door switch and latch may be completely broken and out of order. A broken latch will not hold the door in place, and a broken switch will block the relay of information between different dishwasher components. Faulty parts result in a paused or incomplete wash cycle.
You should perform some diagnostics on the machine to ascertain the extent of the damage to the doors or power switches. You should call a professional maintenance specialist to do the repairs because it is much safer than doing it yourself. However, you can perform the inspection service using the following steps if you are confident of your electrical skills.
1. Start by switching off the power supply and closing the water supply before you start the inspection or repairs. It is even safer if you unplug the power cable or cut power from the circuit breaker before removing the entire machine from the cupboard or counter.
2. Cut off the water supply using a valve usually located below the sink. If you can't find it, use the valve located at the household's main water supply. Disconnect the appliance from the inlet pipes.
